My Book of Poems
This is picture is the cover of a binder that contains all
of the poems that I written. The text that is seen is a catholic prayer known
as the Serenity Prayer. It says: “God,
grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to changes
the things I can, and the wisdom to notice the difference”. These are words
that I attempt to live by every single day of my life. This prayer is the most
inspirational prayer that I've ever seen. With that fact, I felt it was
necessary to have that prayer on the front of a book that contains pages of
inspirational writings.I also felt it was necessary to share because it views you, my audience a visual insight into my passion.
Poetry and it's Importance to Me.
Poetry is a special type of literary work in which the
author is usually expresses his or her feelings and ideas. Poems are written with a use of unique style
and rhythm. I feel that poems are the best way that a person can express
themselves. For me personally, poems
have been a great outlet for me because I enjoy writing and I can see the
feelings that I actually feel. It is a safe outlet which is positive because I
am not harming anyone when releasing my feelings. Poetry also stimulates my creativity
and passion for writing because I am inspired to write out all my current
thoughts of that time.
Poetry has existed
as long as history can record it. It’s been a part of all different movements
throughout the phases of history. Poetry has been used in branches of thoughts
like philosophy and religion. A majority of poems are backed up by messages of
philosophy. The religious Hindu text of the Bhagavad Gita is just a long poem.
Poetry is divided
by different forms by their structure. There are limericks, haiku's, elegies,
sonnets, and free verse. These are only a few types of poems; the types of
poems that I have worked with. I have
written at least two of each type of the poems I just listed.
My favorite type
of poem would have to be free verse. I
love free verse because there are no limits when it comes to writing. There
aren't any rules, I can rhyme as much times I want. I also don’t have to worry
about how many syllables I use in each word. I can write about anything and
there’s no exact amount it has to be. I can make it as short as a sentence but
as long as 5 pages.
I feel that
everybody should get or try to get involved with poetry, just to see if it’s
something that they like. No everybody has to like it, but they should at least
investigate towards it. I was exposed to it in high school and it has changed
me as a person. I always liked writing, but being revealed to poetry has
sparked a new flame in my heart. I acquired a passion for poetry, with each
passing day I write more and I get better at it. This is what I love about
poetry the most: the more I practice, the better I become.
